The House of Van’s is a unique space that has done nothing but improve the atmosphere of Chicago as a whole I believe. I was lucky enough to be able to to photograph at their opening event back at the beginning of February with Noname, Digable Planets, and Future Islands all preformed.
Last Friday, April 21st, was yet again another treat for us music lovers here in the Windy City. Vans teamed up with none other than Rise Against to bring two FREE shows to their fans. The first one, of course, was in their home town of Chicago and the other was at the House of Vans location in Brooklyn.
Opening up with “Give it All” set the town for the night and the hour set felt like it went by in a flash. We were lucky enough to catch one if not two new songs off their up-coming album, Wolves, set to release this July. The perfect ending to this night was getting to hear their icon songs “Savior” and “Prayer for the Refugee” played back to back to close out the night.
All and all Vans put on another amazing event. They cater to the music scene here in the city unlike anyone else, offering free shows just because they want to keep a culture alive. I have a lot of respect for this company and what they are doing with this space! When it’s not being used for kick-ass concerts it is used as an indoor skate park, you can find out times for their open skates by visiting the vans website here.
